OBJECTIZA
Decorative Arts Studio
Portugal
Objectiza was founded by designer Helder Fernandes with a simple yet profound belief: we should surround ourselves with objects that enrich our lives - through artistry and purpose.
Objects that blur the boundaries between Art, Design and Craft.
Trained as an architect, I am a multidisciplinary designer whose career spans diverse industrial fields. Over time, I’ve embraced minimalist design as my poetic form of expression.
My goal is to craft objects that embody thoughtful design while reflecting my artisan touch in every stage of their creation. Each piece is made by me, and I believe this personal connection is felt in every curve, texture, and detail.
Every object is born from a dialogue - between me and myself, between the designer and the artist. Each piece emerges from a personal process - intuitive, iterative, and often conflicted.
Am I doing Art or Design?... I prefer to view my creations as a synthesis and not merely the sum of two parts - they exist in the space where art and design dissolve into something new, honest and meaningful.
I let the form guide me, trusting that meaning will follow.
Committed to environmental consciousness, ensuring that the respect for the planet is reflected in every curve and hue.
All objects are sustainably made using upcycled and eco-friendly materials such as reclaimed wood and upcycled wood fibreboard (MDF), along with water-based dyes and varnishes.
FAQ
Why are all pieces made to order?
Each object is made to order because I believe that true artistry lies not only in the design, but in the act of making. Every piece is crafted by me, and that personal involvement transforms each object into something more than functional - it becomes an art object, shaped with intention and care.
While each piece is individually made, the thoughtful design process allows for consistent quality across editions. I’ve developed techniques that ensure every replica maintains the integrity of the original - without losing the uniqueness that comes from being handcrafted.
Often, you’ll find unique pieces in my shop - made from reclaimed wood that’s decades old. Sometimes I come across a fragment with 40 years of history, just enough to create a single unit. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. That’s part of what makes each piece special.
Orders are typically dispatched within 2–4 business days.
This rhythm allows me to work with precision while keeping the process responsive and personal.
Making to order also supports sustainability. It reduces waste, avoids overproduction, and aligns with my commitment to mindful creation. When you receive a piece, it’s not just something I had in stock - it’s something I made for you.
What kind of wood do you use?
I mostly work with reclaimed wood - pieces salvaged from broken furniture or discarded materials. These fragments carry stories, textures, and character that new wood simply can’t replicate. Collecting and repurposing them is part of my creative process, and often, it’s enough to keep me going.
Occasionally, I do need to purchase wood to meet specific design or production needs. When I do, I choose responsibly sourced materials that align with my commitment to sustainability and quality.
Why do you use MDF as one of your main materials?
When treated with care and finished using my own techniques, MDF becomes an expressive and versatile material - capable of capturing the precision, texture, and emotion I seek in each piece. MDF consistency and precision make it ideal for the kind of thoughtful design I pursue. It enables me to replicate each piece with high quality while still allowing space for individuality in the finishing process.
Using MDF is also part of my commitment to sustainability - Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) it’s a wood byproduct - made from leftovers of the wood processing industry, such as sawdust or parts of the tree that would otherwise go unused, like branches. By choosing MDF, I’m able to transform what might be discarded into something meaningful and enduring.
Can I customize a piece?
While each object is crafted with a specific design intention, I’m open to exploring subtle customizations - such as color variations or finish preferences.
If you have something in mind, feel free to reach out. I’ll let you know what’s possible - always within the integrity of the design.
How should I care for my object?
Each piece is finished with water-based varnishes and dyes, making it both durable and environmentally conscious. To preserve its beauty, simply dust gently with a soft cloth and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight.
That said, each object is unique and may require specific care depending on its materials and finish. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact me - I’ll be happy to advise you on how to best care for your piece.
Is packaging sustainable too?
Yes. I use only the necessary materials to ensure your object arrives safely and in perfect condition - without excess or waste. If you're looking for gift packaging, I’m happy to offer that as well. Just contact me before or right after your purchase, and I’ll make it special.
